Nashville Hot Chicken

When you think of hot chicken, does any other city come to your mind other than Nashville? As a whole Nashville is pretty confident in their hot chicken game. But with the increasing popularity of hot chicken, which place is truly the best? We’ll let you decide as we don’t want to start a fight, but here are some of the top contenders:

Hattie B’s

Founded in 2012, Hattie B’s now has 7 locations including 3 in Nashville and one in Vegas. There are 6 different heat levels ranging from no heat to “shut the cluck up!!!” and southern style sides including pimento mac & cheese and red skin potato salad. If you happen to save room for dessert (good luck), the banana pudding is some of the best I’ve ever had! The original location on Broadway is usually the most crowded, but my favorite location is the newest one-off Melrose. Catering and special events are also available.

Prince’s

With quite the hilarious story of their beginnings, over 100 years later, Prince’s has stood the test of time. This hot chicken comes in 7 different heat levels, and we will leave to our imaginations what the “XXX hot chicken” tastes like. They are open until midnight on Friday and Saturday for all your late-night cravings, but make sure you don’t stop by on Sunday as they’re closed.

Big Shake’s

Big Shake’s has 3 locations and has been featured on Man vs Food. There are 5 heat levels, and you can also order fish, shrimp burgers, or family-style meals. Big Shake’s is home to “The Death Row Hot Chicken Challenge” in which contestants can choose from two different challenges. “Dubbed the hottest chicken in the world, Big Shake’s has seen hundreds come for their chance at winning the coveted “I Survived the Death Row Challenge” t-shirt and a crisp one-hundred-dollar bill. However, less than 20 people have completed the challenge in almost 4 years.” Best of luck!

Party Fowl

With three locations and a fourth on the way, Party Fowl is the newest player to the game. Almost everything they have is made from scratch, they have 5 different heat levels, and they offer more than 20 local beers on tap. Talk about a restaurant that loves their city! Their menu ranges from hot chicken items to gumbo & salads, to burgers. Nobody will be left out here!

Pepperfire

Pepperfire is set to open at their new location in March 2020, so you’ll just have to wait a few more weeks to try it out! They have been featured on The Travel Channel’s Chowdown Countdown and feature seven different levels of heat. You know Pepperfire is the real deal because you can get a side of fried okra and collard greens!

Boltons

Boltons has a little bit of everything including hot chicken, ribs, wings, catfish, and seafood. There are no heat levels as everything is made spicy, so this might not be the spot for everyone. Beware they are closed on Mondays!
